Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia is seeking to attract global investment in the maritime and fisheries sector through the Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) 2026, which is scheduled to take place in Bali on June 8-9.Head of the Multilateral Cooperation Team at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Desri Yanti said OIS 2026 will be held with the support of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and is expected to serve as a platform for Indonesia to establish direct access to global investors and business players.“We hope this event can generate investment commitments in the maritime and fisheries sector, as well as partnerships with the private sector for the blue economy,” she said during a press conference here on Wednesday.According to her, Indonesia aims to use the momentum to shift the maritime narrative from a focus solely on conservation toward the utilization of maritime resources as a driver of economic growth.She emphasized that maritime resources must serve as a foundation for innovation, job creation, and sustainable economic development.The Ocean Impact Summit 2026 is also expected to strengthen Indonesia’s leadership in the global maritime and fisheries sector.As the world’s largest archipelagic country, Indonesia is targeting to become a hub for the maritime economy, not only in Southeast Asia but also globally.In addition, Yanti said OIS 2026 is expected to produce deliverables in the form of investment commitments, partnerships with the private sector, and financing initiatives for the blue economy and future maritime and fisheries development.WEF's support was marked by the signing of a Letter of Intent between Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and two WEF managing directors, Sebastian Buckup and Maroun Kairouz, in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday (January 22).
