Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the final outcome of tariff negotiations between Indonesia and the United States now hinges on a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and President Donald Trump. He emphasized that a high-level meeting between the two heads of state is still required, even though Indonesia and the United States are, in principle, ready to reach an agreement, with tariff talks proceeding without significant obstacles.“It is important to consider the schedules of both leaders. Note that they previously met in Davos, Switzerland,” Hartarto told reporters after attending a coordination meeting of the Central Inflation Control Team in Jakarta on Thursday.Although the conclusion of negotiations remains pending, the minister assured that both parties have been engaged in progressive dialogue on President Trump's so-called reciprocal tariff policy.“There is no obstacle,” he affirmed.Earlier, State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi revealed that the official conclusion of the tariff negotiations is now expected in February 2026, rather than January as previously anticipated.“We might reach the conclusion by mid-February. The economic affairs coordinating minister recently informed us that the outcome is likely to be announced in the second week of February,” he said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (Jan. 28).He explained that the postponement was not due to major substantive issues, but rather the need for both parties to adjust schedules and examine further details.Hadi added that there are currently no plans for President Prabowo to visit the United States to conclude the negotiations. Even so, he underscored that tariff talks have been proceeding smoothly between the two countries.
