Japanese firms eye investment in Indonesia’s new capital IKN

Penajam Paser Utara (ANTARA) – Japan is exploring business opportunities and strengthening sustainable investment collaboration in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), which is being built in parts of North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara Districts, East Kalimantan Province.“Business players are exploring investment opportunities in the IKN,” said Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono on Saturday, when responding to the visit of dozens of Japanese business representatives to Sepaku, North Penajam Paser.“It is hoped that this visit will lead to concrete investment in the future development of the IKN,” he added.The IKN Authority remains committed to expanding collaboration with both national and international partners, including Japan, in developing the IKN as Indonesia’s future capital city.Hadimuljono stated that the IKN is being built as a new, modern, competitive, and sustainable center of government. Interest from Japanese investors is expected to strengthen the IKN’s position as a strategic investment destination going forward.The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), along with representatives from 34 Japanese companies across various sectors, visited the Nusantara Capital City.The delegation included representatives from government agencies as well as business players in sectors such as trade, banking, machinery, electricity, materials, food, and services.During the visit, the IKN Authority provided prospective investors with a first-hand overview of infrastructure readiness and the city’s development direction.“The visit aims to explore business opportunities and strengthen collaboration for sustainable investment in the IKN,” said President Director of JETRO Jakarta Shinji Hurai.He added that Japanese investors’ interest in supporting the construction and development of the IKN remains strong, and deeper exploration of potential investment opportunities is therefore expected.
