Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force will prioritize recovering markets and places of worship, as well as building temporary housing, ahead of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The task force's spokesperson, Amran, told a press conference here on Wednesday that the move is intended to ensure residents affected by the Sumatra floods and landslides can conduct their economic and religious activities smoothly during the month.According to the task force's latest data, the recovery of markets across the three affected provinces in Sumatra has shown significant progress.”The data shows that over 90 percent of markets are now functioning well,” he said. The task force is also prioritizing the rapid repair of places of worship, particularly in Muslim-majority areas. This is being done to ensure that these facilities can be used by the community throughout Ramadan.Furthermore, the construction of temporary housing is also among the task force's focuses. The government is currently fast-tracking the construction process to ensure that disaster-affected residents have decent housing while observing the fasting month.”We hope to maximize the efforts so that there are no longer any displaced people by the time the fasting month begins,” Amran remarked. He expressed optimism that the temporary housing target will be met, as more houses are being completed and the number of people staying in emergency shelters continues to decrease.Three provinces of Sumatra—Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra—were previously hit by heavy rainfall-triggered floods and landslides in late November 2025.According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) records, as of February 4, the disasters claimed 1,204 lives, while 140 residents remain missing.
