Jakarta to launch Rp3,500 bus service from Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Jakarta provincial government is preparing 20 buses for a new Transjabodetabek route connecting Blok M, a major commercial hub in South Jakarta, with Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Banten.Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo announced here on Thursday that the service will operate at intervals of five to ten minutes, ensuring frequent departures for passengers traveling to and from the airport. The new service is part of Transjakarta, Jakarta’s bus rapid transit (BRT) system, which has become one of the city’s most important modes of mass transportation since its launch in 2004.Designed to reduce traffic congestion in one of the world’s most gridlocked capitals, Transjakarta operates dedicated bus lanes across the city and serves more than a million passengers daily. The Transjabodetabek network extends this service to surrounding areas in Greater Jakarta.Governor Pramono emphasized that fares for the new Blok M–Soekarno Hatta route will remain at standard levels: Rp2,000 (around US$0.13) before 7 a.m. and Rp3,500 (around US$0.23) afterward. He expressed confidence that the route will be popular among commuters, citing its affordability and efficiency compared to other transport options.“From Soekarno-Hatta to Blok M for only Rp3,500, with modern buses—of course people will use it,” he said. The service is expected to shorten travel times by using special lanes, making it faster than most existing airport transport options.Authorities believe the route will significantly reduce congestion both in Jakarta and in neighboring Banten province, where the airport is located. The new Transjabodetabek line is scheduled to launch next week, though officials have not yet confirmed the exact date.
