Indonesia says banks will communicate with Moody’s on outlook

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said banks would engage with credit rating agency Moody's to address considerations underlying its recent outlook revision.”Yes, this will involve communication between each bank and Moody's,” Airlangga said on the sidelines of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Meeting I 2026 on Saturday. He said rating agencies routinely seek clarification on issues within their assessment scope and that responses would be handled at both the corporate and national levels.”For corporate-related matters, each institution responds individually. From a national perspective, Indonesia remains in Moody's investment-grade category,” he said.Moody's Ratings recently revised the outlook on five Indonesian banks — BCA, Bank Mandiri, BNI, BRI, and BTN — from stable to negative, following a change in Indonesia's sovereign outlook.Moody's has maintained Indonesia's sovereign credit rating at Baa2, one notch above the investment-grade threshold, while revising the outlook from stable to negative. In its report, Moody's emphasized the importance of policy predictability, effective public communication, and coordination among government institutions amid ongoing economic governance adjustments.Separately, Airlangga said the government had also asked sovereign wealth fund Danantara to communicate Indonesia's fiscal policy framework to Moody's following recent institutional changes.Earlier, the House of Representatives' Budget Committee underscored the importance of continued financial and fiscal reforms in response to recent assessments by international institutions.
