Indonesia advances 65 fishermen villages nationwide, 50 percent done

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono stated that the construction progress of the first phase of the Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih (Red and White Fishermen’s Village) program has reached 50 percent.Trenggono said the Red and White Fishermen’s Village program is planned to be developed at 65 locations, and the project was one of the agendas discussed during a limited meeting with President Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Thursday.“Yes, the progress has reached 50 percent for phase one, and hopefully it can be completed soon in February,” Trenggono told reporters.Red and White Fishermen Villages Program ss a coastal development program supporting fishermen’s welfare, sustainable livelihoods, and maritime economic growth.The program aims to transform fishermen villages into modern, productive, and competitive hubs by improving fishermen’s welfare through facility upgrades and better market access.Trenggono also reported to President Prabowo on the progress of the shrimp pond development in Waingapu, East Nusa Tenggara which is currently still under development.The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has begun developing an integrated shrimp farming area in the region, with an investment value reaching US$500 million.“We also reported that the shrimp pond development in Waingapu is currently in progress,” he said.The Waingapu shrimp farming project has been designated a national strategic programme aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s aquaculture industry and supporting regional economic growth.
