Danantara partners with Chinese firm for Bogor waste-to-energy plant

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Investment Management Agency Danantara Indonesia announced it had partnered with a Chinese company specializing in investment and environmental protection equipment to operate a wastetoenergy (WtE) plant in the Greater Bogor region, West Java.Danantara, also recognized as a sovereign wealth fund, appointed Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co., Ltd. to manage the electricity facility after a comprehensive selection process involving several international corporations.In an official statement received here on Saturday, Danantara Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir said the agency had signed a partnership agreement with Zhejiang Weiming as part of efforts to implement an integrated approach to waste management, grounded in good governance and high operational standards.”The chosen partner is expected to consistently maintain operational performance, ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, and support the involvement of local communities,” he said.Sjahrir emphasized that the partnership represents a manifestation of Presidential Regulation No. 109 of 2025, which promotes the conversion of urban waste into renewable energy through eco-friendly technology.He noted that Danantara’s initiative also marks a concrete step toward reducing urban reliance on landfills in controlling and processing waste.Furthermore, he highlighted that the Chinese firm is required to establish a consortium to facilitate technology transfers and strengthen collaboration with regional governments and Indonesian companies.Sjahrir then underscored Danantara’s commitment to developing the Bogor WtE plant while ensuring operational reliability, responsible environmental management, and cooperation with local stakeholders.The agency will adhere to transparency and risk mitigation in implementing the project.”Danantara is committed to promoting integrated solutions to waste management to generate long-term value for the environment and communities in various regions,” he added.Danantara has previously appointed Zhejiang Weiming as operator of a WtE plant in Denpasar, Bali, and Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd. for another facility in Bekasi City, West Java.
