Bali Airport reopens after Nyepi Day closure, flights resume normally

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport management in Denpasar, Bali, announced that operations have resumed after a 24-hour closure for the Nyepi or the silence holy day.”I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport reopened operations on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 6 a.m. local time following the Nyepi observance,” said the airport's Communication and Legal Division Head Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi here on Friday.He explained that the first arriving passengers on Friday morning were from the domestic Surabaya-Denpasar route on Citilink flight QG 692, landing at 06:52 a.m. local time (WITA).This was followed by international passengers from Hong Kong arriving on Hongkong Airlines flight HX 707 at 06:58 a.m. WITA.For departures, the first domestic flight was Citilink QG 691 from Denpasar to Surabaya at 08:10 a.m. WITA. The first international departure was Hongkong Airlines flight HX 706 from Denpasar to Hong Kong at 09:00 WITA.Asmadi confirmed that the airport has returned to normal operations and reported that conditions during Nyepi were calm, with no flight activity.”We report that the situation at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport during Nyepi was stable,” he said.During the ongoing implementation of the Eid al-Fitr Transportation Coordination Post from March 13–30, 2026, the airport was temporarily closed from March 19 at 06:00 WITA to March 20 at 06:00 WITA.In addition to preparing personnel, the airport’s Eid Transportation Post has implemented procedures to anticipate emergency situations, delays, and adverse weather conditions.During the closure, 440 scheduled commercial flights were not operated, consisting of 231 domestic and 209 international flights. Additionally, 19 aircraft remained overnight at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport during the temporary closure.
