Jakarta (ANTARA) – Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana praised two Indonesian restaurants for being included in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026, alongside recognition for Indonesian culinary talent through a special award.She said the achievement could help boost Indonesian tourism by highlighting the country’s appeal as a destination rich in culture, creativity, and authentic local flavors.“The inclusion of two Indonesian restaurants in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026, along with an award for an Indonesian pastry chef, is a remarkable achievement. It shows that Indonesian gastronomy can compete globally when supported by innovation, quality, and strong storytelling,” Wardhana said in a statement on Saturday.Based on an announcement in Hong Kong on March 25, 2026, two Indonesian restaurants were included on the prestigious list, namely August from Jakarta, ranked 42nd, and Locavore NXT from Ubud, Bali, ranked 44th.This marks a significant improvement from the previous year, with August rising from 49th place in 2025 and Locavore NXT climbing from 92nd place.August, led by Chef Hans Christian, remains Indonesia’s highest-ranked restaurant. Located in Sequis Tower in Jakarta’s SCBD area, it is known for its modern interpretation of Indonesian flavors and its refined, intimate dining atmosphere.Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants also highlighted the role of August’s pastry chef, Ardika Dwitama, as a key strength of the restaurant.Indonesia’s recognition was further reinforced by Dwitama’s win of the Asia’s Best Pastry Chef Award 2026.“Culinary is an essential part of the travel experience, and Indonesia has strong potential to grow as a world-class gastronomic destination,” Wardhana said.Meanwhile, Locavore NXT’s ranking at 44th place marks an important milestone in the development of Indonesian gastronomy.
