Samarinda (ANTARA) – Frozen tiger prawns and frozen pink shrimp have emerged as top export commodities in East Kalimantan's fisheries sector in the first quarter of 2026, a local fishery official said on Thursday.”Among all shipments of non-live fishery products from January to March 2026, these two shrimp types remain the largest contributors by volume,” said Irma Listiawati, an official at the East Kalimantan Marine Affairs and Fisheries Office, in Samarinda.She said the cumulative export volume of marine products during the period reached 670.3 tons.The exports generated an economic value of more than Rp122.7 billion (around US$7.2 million).Trade activity peaked in February, with shipments totaling 238.05 tons, despite a narrower range of commodities exported.Listiawati noted that the highest transaction value, reaching Rp47.3 billion, was driven by strong international demand for frozen tiger prawns.”Frozen tiger prawns accounted for more than half of the total monthly export volume, followed by frozen pink shrimp,” she said.The products have reached markets across East and Southeast Asia, as well as Western countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom.In addition to frozen shrimp, East Kalimantan also exports fresh grouper and pomfret, which are popular in China and Hong Kong.Head of the East Kalimantan Marine Affairs and Fisheries Office Irhan Humaidy said the export trend supports national food security efforts.He added that the rising export productivity aligns with the government's vision to strengthen national resilience through sustainable food self-sufficiency.
