Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto has urged provincial governments and the Indonesian Military (TNI) to purchase domestically made electric vehicles, such as buses and trucks, to support the national industry.Prabowo made the statement during the inauguration of an electric commercial vehicle assembly plant in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday.“We hope other provincial governments will also support and buy products made by our own nation across the country. Mr. Minister State Secretary, please write down those governors who haven’t ordered domestic products, such as (electric) buses, trucks, and so on. The TNI should also buy domestically,” Prabowo said. The President explained that the factory, owned by PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas, is currently capable of producing up to 10 thousand electric buses, with a domestic component level (TKDN) of around 40 percent. This TKDN is targeted to rise to 60 percent in two years and reach 80 percent in another two years.Prabowo mentioned existing bus orders from local governments, such as Central Java and Jakarta provinces.“We already have a bus industry and a truck industry. I thank the Governor of Central Java; they have ordered several dozen buses. Jakarta has also ordered quite a number for Transjakarta,” the President said.He lauded the domestic commercial vehicle industry development, noting it shows a clear direction for industrial development and aligns with the energy transition efforts by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting cleaner energy use.“The initiative carried out by VKTR is historic, a proud milestone. You eventually get more than what you hoped for,” Prabowo remarked. He expressed hope that PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas could become a leading national company in the commercial vehicle sector, comparable to major automotive producers abroad.
