Indonesia seeks 30,000 managers for village cooperatives

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya hosted Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono at his Jakarta office on Monday night (April 20) to discuss the recruitment of 30,000 managers under the Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) program. In an Instagram post cited on Tuesday, the Cabinet Secretariat said the meeting focused on centralized recruitment, which is taking place from April 15 to 24.The government plans to deploy selected candidates to manage cooperative operations, supported by staff recruited from local communities after completing two months of training in managerial skills and cooperative fundamentals. These managers will work in coordination with several state institutions, particularly the Ministry of Cooperatives and state-owned enterprises. The secretariat highlighted the KDMP program’s potential role in community empowerment, noting it could create jobs for at least 800,000 people across more than 80,000 village cooperatives being developed nationwide. The estimate is based on a plan for each cooperative to employ one manager and at least 10 staff members.“Village cooperatives are expected to strengthen rural economies by providing more affordable goods through reduced reliance on intermediaries,” the Cabinet Secretariat said.Earlier, Minister Juliantono assured the public of fair job distribution, emphasizing that while managerial recruitment is centralized, KDMPs will continue to employ local residents for staff positions.“There will be staff from the villages, as we plan to involve existing cooperative personnel and provide them with opportunities to work in these cooperatives,” he said after a coordination meeting in Jakarta on the same day.He added that non-managerial roles will be open to residents registered as social assistance beneficiaries, including those under the Family Hope Program.“Aid recipients can work as cashiers, security personnel, drivers, and other roles. The key is to involve local residents,” he said.
