Indonesia secures 150 million barrels of Russian oil at special price

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has secured 150 million barrels of oil from Russia at a special price, following President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the country, Presidential Special Envoy for Energy and Environment Hashim Djojohadikusumo stated.“Indonesia has now obtained a commitment from the Russian government—150 million barrels that we can store domestically to anticipate potential economic turbulence,” he said at the Economic Briefing 2026 event held here on Thursday.Djojohadikusumo explained that the agreement was the result of President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Russia on Monday (April 13). During the visit, Prabowo met with Russian President Vladimir Putin for three hours. At the meeting, Djojohadikusumo noted, Russia initially agreed to immediately supply 100 million barrels of oil to Indonesia at a special price. If Indonesia requires additional supply, he added, Russia will increase the volume by another 50 million barrels to help Indonesia cope with economic volatility.“So he (Prabowo) did not go to Moscow for leisure. He went to Moscow, met President Putin for three hours, and secured a commitment from President Putin,” he said. Thus, Russia has become an alternative energy supplier for Indonesia amid the ongoing global energy crisis triggered by the conflict involving the United States (US), Israel, and Iran.Previously reported, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia is targeting that crude oil imported from Russia can begin arriving in Indonesia starting April 2026.Meanwhile, he said the process of purchasing LPG, including its percentage relative to the domestic needs, is still being finalized. These measures are part of the government’s strategy to ensure the reliability of energy supply amid uncertain geopolitical conditions.“So, there must be diversification. God willing, our crude supply will improve,” he said.
