RI, Muslim nations condemn Israeli settlers’ incursions into Al-Aqsa

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia and several Muslim countries condemned the repeated violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, especially the continued incursions by Israeli settlers and extremist ministers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The condemnation was issued in a joint statement by foreign ministers of Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, as reported by Saudi Press Agency on Friday.”These provocative actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque constitute a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and represent an unacceptable provocation to Muslims around the world, and a flagrant violation of the sanctity of the holy city,” the joint statement read. The foreign ministers reaffirmed their categorical rejection of any attempts to alter the historic and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites, while recognizing the special role of the Jordanian monarchy in its custodianship. The entire area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and the Jerusalem Waqf agency, under the responsibility of the Jordanian government, holds exclusive rights to administer the mosque affairs, including regulating access. The ministers further condemned the accelerating illegal settlement activity emboldened by Israel's decision to approve 30 new settlements and the continued and escalating settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. They said Israel's actions constitute a deliberate and direct attack on the viability of the Palestinian state and the implementation of the two-state solution.”The ministers called upon the international community to assume its responsibilities and take clear and decisive steps to halt these violations,” the joint statement said. The foreign ministers appealed to the international community to intensify joint efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. They also reiterated their unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people on self-determination and the realization of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.Dozens of Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Tuesday (April 21), under heavy protection from Israeli occupation forces, as reported by Palestine's news agency WAFA.The group stormed the mosque's courtyard, raising the Israeli flag and performing provocative Talmudic rituals inside.
