Indonesian govt summons taxi firm after Bekasi train crash

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation has summoned the management of Green SM taxi following a train collision at East Bekasi Station, West Java, on April 27.Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan said in a statement on Tuesday that the ministry had called in the management of Xanh SM, also known as Green SM, for clarification.The ministry has formed a special team to investigate the taxi operator's involvement, including licensing, administrative requirements, safety standards, and operational compliance.”Our principle is to prioritize public safety. Any potential violations will be handled in accordance with regulations,” he said.Based on data from the Siprajab application, the taxi involved had license plate number B 2864 SBX and a valid inspection card until October 28.”The vehicle was registered to provide regular taxi services in the Greater Jakarta area,” he said.However, the ministry is conducting further investigation to ensure the operator complies with all applicable regulations.The company holds a Public Transportation Company Safety Management System (SMK PAU) certificate valid for five years.”We will also audit the safety management standards that public transportation companies must comply with,” he said.The ministry will take action if violations of transportation regulations are found.Sanctions may range from warning letters and temporary suspension of permits to revocation of licenses, depending on the severity of violations.The ministry also expressed condolences over the collision between a commuter train and an Argo Bromo Anggrek train.”We pray that those who lost their lives are granted the best place, and that the injured recover soon,” he said.The incident, which killed 15 passengers, occurred after the commuter train hit a Green SM taxi at a crossing near East Bekasi Station and was then struck from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train on the same track.
