Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto aims to build more than 25,000 Red and White Cooperatives nationwide within three months to strengthen Indonesia’s grassroots economy.Speaking at the groundbreaking of 13 downstream industrial projects in Cilacap, Central Java, on Wednesday, Prabowo said the government would soon inaugurate 1,000 cooperatives.The president explained that tens of thousands more units would follow shortly after the initial launch phase.“Soon we will inaugurate 1,000 Red and White Cooperatives, likely within two to three weeks. After that, in two to three months, we will inaugurate more than 25,000 cooperatives,” he said.Prabowo noted that these cooperatives would be fully equipped physical entities supported by infrastructure such as warehouses and cold storage facilities.The units will also be provided with operational vehicles to ensure the efficient distribution of goods across rural areas.”Try to check history, has any country built and completed 25,000 or 30,000 cooperatives within a year?” he said during the broadcast.The Red and White Cooperatives initiative targets up to 80,000 units across Indonesia to boost rural self sufficiency and accelerate energy security.The program positions cooperatives as key aggregators of rural economic activity by integrating digital systems to improve trade governance.By shortening lengthy food distribution chains, the government aims to make staple goods more affordable for the general public.The initiative also expands essential services such as microcredit and fertilizer distribution to support local farmers.Fishermen will benefit from the addition of cold storage facilities to help maintain the quality of their catch and increase market value.
