Jakarta (ANTARA) – Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani is targeting the second phase of strategic downstreaming projects, including the construction of gasoline refinery facilities in Cilacap and Dumai, to save Indonesia US$1.25 billion in foreign exchange.“The development in Cilacap and Dumai refineries will reduce imports by approximately US$1.25 billion per year,” he said at the launch of the 13 second phase-downstreaming projects in Cilacap, Central Java, as monitored on Wednesday.Rosan, who also acts as CEO of Danantara Investment Management Agency, explained that strengthening energy security is a priority in five projects in the energy sector to reduce dependence on imported fuel oil.The government is also working to address the burden of LPG imports, which currently accounts for 80 percent of total national demand through energy substitution measures.Among the efforts to seek energy substitute is the construction of a coal processing facility to produce dimethyl ether (DME) in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra.Other downstream projects include the construction of stainless steel manufacturing, nickel manufacturing, carbon steel slabs, copper and gold downstream processing in Gresik, East Java, as well as iron ore production in Cilegon, West Java.In addition, asphalt production in Buton, Southeast Sulawesi, is being developed to reduce dependence on imports.Beyond the energy sector, the government is pursuing downstream development in the agricultural sector, including the development of palm oil processing into oleofood and biodiesel products in Sei Mangkei in North Sumatra, and the construction of downstream coconut and nutmeg factories in Central Maluku to increase the added value of local commodities. To date, the investment value of national strategic projects under Danantara's coordination has reached US$26 billion. The development of these 13 downstream projects is a continuation of the first phase of development, which began last February in 11 different locations.Looking ahead, Rosan stated that there will be a third phase of downstream projects, bringing the total number of projects to 30.
