Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto assured that he will continue to protect workers' interests, including from the threats of layoffs, as part of government’s efforts to ensure public welfare.The statement was made following his announcement of the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 10 of 2026 concerning the Establishment of a Task Force on Layoffs Mitigation and Labor Welfare, during the 2026 International Workers’ Day event in Jakarta on Friday.“Do not worry, we will defend the interests of workers. Those threatened with layoffs, we will defend and protect you all,” President Prabowo said in his statement.He added that the government will always ensure workers remain protected under any circumstances, as the state will continue to be present to guarantee their welfare.The establishment of the Layoff Mitigation Task Force on International Workers’ Day is expected to demonstrate the strong commitment to protecting and defending workers’ interests, particularly in times of uncertainty.Prabowo also stated that the government will strengthen social protection for low-income communities as part of its broader efforts to safeguard public welfare.“We are also providing significant social protection. This year, we are providing Rp500 trillion in protection for low-income people,” he said.On the occasion, the President said he consistently instructs his staff to adopt policies that directly benefit the people.“I am giving instructions to ministers: when making policies, when formulating policies, think carefully and ask whether this benefits the common people or not. If it benefits the common people, implement it. If it is the right thing to do, there is no need for hesitation,” Prabowo concluded.
