Indonesia finishes 65 fishing villages, eyes Phase II

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia's Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries announced that 65 Red and White Fishing Villages (KNMP) have been fully completed and are ready for operation.”Phase I construction across 65 locations reached 100 percent completion by the end of April 2026,” said Trian Yunanda, head of the KNMP construction coordination team, on Saturday.Following completion, the ministry issued Ministerial Decree No. 20 of 2026 on the KNMP Operational Task Force to ensure the program runs in a focused, systematic, and efficient manner.Yunanda said the task force will oversee operational readiness to ensure facilities are used optimally by coastal communities.He added that all facilities are expected to become operational immediately, with the task force ensuring effective implementation.He acknowledged delays at several sites due to remote locations, land disputes, and extreme weather that persisted until early 2026.“We will closely monitor the completion of Phase II construction in 35 locations,” he said.The KNMP is a priority program under President Prabowo Subianto aimed at supporting food self-sufficiency, strengthening the blue economy, creating jobs, and reducing poverty in coastal areas.The program provides infrastructure such as docks, roads, drainage, lighting, cold storage, ice plants, repair shops, logistics stores, and fueling stations.The government targets completing 1,300 fishing villages by the end of 2026.It has also opened nationwide recruitment for 5,476 management positions, including operational managers, production chiefs, quality assurance officers, and financial administrators.
