April inflation rate remains under control: Finance Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa assessed that the inflation rate in April 2026, which was recorded at 0.13 percent month-to-month (mtm), was quite under control.Meanwhile, on an annual basis (yoy), inflation in April 2026 was recorded at 2.42 percent (yoy).Purbaya, in a media briefing in Jakarta on Monday, explained that inflationary pressures are now starting to subside as the government normalizes its policies. The government's efforts to maintain fuel subsidies amid geopolitical turmoil have helped curb the surge in inflation, particularly in the energy sector, he added. The minister explained that the government's decision to continue fuel subsidies was carefully considered. If energy subsidies are removed amidst rising global oil prices, inflation could potentially spike and negatively impact the public.”But if we release the oil price, and fuel prices are in line with global oil prices, inflation will certainly rise sharply, and purchasing power will be eroded. The oil effect will increase significantly,” Purbaya said.“That is why we're withholding some fuel subsidies,” he added. The State Treasurer also stated that removing fuel subsidies will not only impact inflation but could also suppress people's purchasing power, leading to an economic slowdown. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's inflation in April 2026 reached 2.42 yoy, reflected in the increase in the consumer price index (CPI) from 108.47 in April 2025 to 111.09 in April 2026.
