Govt sends 36 participants to China for povery alleviation training

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Transmigration is deploying 36 training participants to China to gain knowledge on poverty alleviation and rural development for use in transmigration areas in Indonesia.Transmigration Minister M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said the program is part of the government's efforts in accelerating poverty alleviation through the development of transmigration areas.”We consider China to be quite successful in poverty alleviation efforts, and we want to learn those best practices and implement them in Indonesia,” he remarked on Thursday. His office opted for China as the training location due to its experience and success in gradually reducing poverty rates over four decades.Participants will stay in China for approximately two weeks to participate in training related to rural development and poverty alleviation. The program will take place from May 9–22, 2026, and will include lectures, discussions, and field trips to Beijing and the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefectures of Yunnan Province.Participants will include representatives from the Ministry of Transmigration, trainers from transmigration centers, and academics from 10 universities, including the University of Indonesia, IPB University, Padjadjaran University, Bandung Institute of Technology, Diponegoro University, Gadjah Mada University, Sepuluh November Institute of Technology, Airlangga University, Brawijaya University, and Hasanuddin University.”They will become part of the Patriot Expedition Team, working in 53 transmigration areas, particularly 10 transmigration areas in Papua,” Suryanagara explained. The training results will be compiled into a policy paper and an implementation guidebook that can be applied in transmigration areas.Participants from academics will also be involved in providing training for the Patriot Expedition Team, to be deployed in the field. He said the government seeks to build a poverty alleviation model applicable at the regional, district, village, and family levels. He illustrated that one Patriot member may be able to assist approximately 10 extremely poor families in improving their welfare.”If one Patriot is responsible for 10 families classified as extremely poor and destitute, then one thousand members can contribute to 10,000 families,” he said.
