Govt pushes standardization to boost local products’ competitiveness

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Industry stressed the importance of standardization to boost the competitiveness of national industrial products and strengthen market trust in Indonesian-made products.In a statement confirmed here on Tuesday, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita noted that 2026 offers a key opportunity to accelerate Indonesia's national industrialization and economic transformation.Consequently, he urged all ranks within the Ministry of Industry to move faster, work with measurable targets, and focus on tangible results to strengthen the structure of the national industry.”The year 2026 is about resolving issues, locking in targets, and proving that the Ministry of Industry can serve as the primary driver of national economic transformation,” he remarked.Kartasasmita further noted that standardization efforts are being reinforced by accelerating the implementation of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) across various industrial sectors.The minister also emphasized that the consistent application of SNI provides quality assurance while bolstering the competitiveness of domestic products in both local and global markets.In line with these directives, Head of Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy, Emmy Suryandari, stated that her agency's priority focus for 2026 includes SNI monitoring, green industry acceleration, and the Industry 4.0 transformation.These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to strengthen a competitive and sustainable national industrial ecosystem.Regionally, Banda Aceh Center for Standardization and Industrial Services (BSPJI) has taken a concrete step by committing to expediting the update of mandatory SNI standards for mineral water products in 2026.”This commitment reflects Banda Aceh BSPJI's support in strengthening the quality of national industrial products,” Banda Aceh BSPJI Head Agung Budi Lestari said.He affirmed that his institution is also committed to expediting its certification services in line with the Minimum Service Standards (SPM), as mandated by the Industry Minister's Instruction Number 2/2026.
