Indonesia plans to reopen commercial flights at two air bases

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia is planning to reopen commercial flights at two Air Force bases — Adisutjipto in Yogyakarta and Husein Sastranegara in Bandung — for domestic and international routes. The plan was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Defense Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto and Deputy National Development Planning Minister Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard in Jakarta on Monday.”We welcome the plan to resume commercial flights at the two air bases,” Donny said in a statement issued on Tuesday.Donny said the plan is expected to support the civil aviation sector and regional economic growth.Increased passenger traffic at the two air bases is expected to boost regional economic activity, he added. However, Donny stressed that commercial flight operations must not interfere with Indonesian Air Force activities at the two air bases.”We will ensure that the Air Force's operational and defense activities in the area continue to run optimally,” he said. The Defense Ministry is currently preparing operational rules, regulations, and supporting facilities to ensure civilian and military aviation activities can operate without disruption.”Our main focus is technical arrangements for apron use and flight scheduling to avoid congestion so military and civilian operations can run harmoniously,” Donny said.He expressed hope that the plan would help support economic activity and improve public mobility through existing aviation infrastructure.
