Magelang (ANTARA) – Buddhists lit Peace Lamp as part of the Vesak Tri Suci celebrations 2570 BE/2026 at Mendut Temple before proceeding to Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java.A monk from Sangha Mahayana Tanah Suci Indonesia, Dwi Virya, in Magelang on Sunday stated that the peace lamp, using the Api Abadi Mrapen, symbolizes inner illumination, prayer, and the hope for peace and harmony for all beings.Monks and Buddhists took turns lighting the lamps in the courtyard of Mendut Temple which illuminated the temple area and created a reflective atmosphere leading up to the peak of the Vesak celebrations.It symbolizes the spirit of wisdom, compassion, and universal brotherhood in core values of teaching of Buddhism.It is also an important part of a series of religious rituals attended by thousands people from various regions.He said the lighting of the peace lamp give a moment to reflect and strengthen willpower to spread goodness in the communities.According to him, through the Vesak commemoration, Buddhists are encouraged to continue maintaining harmony, strengthening tolerance, and creating a peaceful life amidst the diversity of Indonesian society.Virya explained that it also as an invitation to all members of society to maintain harmony and a spirit of brotherhood for a harmonious and prosperous life.The light of the lamp is expected to not only illuminate the Vesak celebration, but also serve as a reminder of the importance of cultivating peace, love, and harmony in daily activities.
