Indonesia reaffirms support for peace process in Myanmar

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has reaffirmed the country's unwavering commitment to supporting an inclusive and sustainable peace process in Myanmar, during a high-profile diplomatic visit to Naypyidaw.The commitment was conveyed directly by Sugiono during a courtesy call on Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, where he also delivered a special message from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto regarding conflict resolution and regional stability.”Indonesia is ready to work with all stakeholders in Myanmar to achieve dialogue to resolve the conflict peacefully,” Sugiono said in a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.During the high-level discussions, Indonesia strongly reaffirmed its belief that the ongoing peace process must be entirely owned and led by Myanmar itself.Jakarta further underscored the critical importance of implementing the Five-Point Consensus, which serves as the unified ASEAN framework to support a peaceful resolution to the Myanmar crisis.In addition to his meeting with President Hlaing, Foreign Minister Sugiono held a separate bilateral meeting with Myanmar Foreign Minister U Tin Maung Swe.The two ministers engaged in constructive dialogue covering various regional and bilateral issues. They explored new opportunities to strengthen cooperation across the economic, educational, and people-to-people sectors of both nations.For Indonesia, Myanmar remains an integral part of the ASEAN family. Jakarta has pledged to continue working constructively alongside Myanmar and other ASEAN member states to restore stability.Sugiono’s working visit is part of a broader, ongoing engagement strategy by ASEAN countries to support peace in Myanmar.Prior to this mission, the foreign ministers of the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia also traveled to Myanmar to advance similar peace and stabilization efforts.Indonesia and Myanmar share a deep historical bond, having established formal diplomatic relations in 1949.Notably, both nations were among the key initiators of the historic 1955 Asia-Africa Conference, which laid the foundation for solidarity and cooperation among developing countries worldwide.
