Prabowo says Indonesia remains open to foreign investors

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto dismissed claims that his administration is hostile to foreign investors, saying Indonesia remains open to international capital and is seeing strong investment interest across sectors.“Some say Prabowo dislikes foreign investors and will drive them away, but that is not the case. I have met many investors planning to enter Indonesia,” he told the 18th National Conference of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) in Bandar Lampung on Wednesday. The remarks were aimed at addressing speculation over the direction of the government’s investment policy.Prabowo said his administration maintains close communication with global business leaders and continues to receive strong interest from foreign investors seeking opportunities in Indonesia. He stressed, however, that investors must comply with Indonesian laws and regulations before operating in the country. The president also underscored the importance of law enforcement in creating a fair business environment. He said the government is committed to eliminating unlawful business practices, noting that some domestic players exploit legal uncertainty for personal gain.Authorities will act against such violations, he added.Prabowo said protecting national interests remains a key consideration in investment partnerships, while Indonesia continues to maintain constructive relations with countries worldwide. To support investment, the government has established the Strategic Program Acceleration Task Force (P2SP) to help resolve bottlenecks faced by domestic and foreign businesses. The task force is responsible for addressing licensing, regulatory and inter-agency coordination issues that may delay investment projects.Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said in May that the initiative could help accelerate more than US$30 billion in investment. He said the estimate reflects the value of projects whose implementation has been delayed by licensing and administrative obstacles.
