Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza said the depreciation of the rupiah and volatility in the capital market have not significantly affected the textile and textile products (TPT) industry.”There have been concerns that the rise in foreign exchange rates and the weakening rupiah are hurting the industry. However, some sectors are actually benefiting from the current situation,” he noted in a statement on Thursday (June 11).Riza visited PT Gajah Angkasa Perkasa in Bandung to review the operations of the textile manufacturer and assess the condition of the industry amid concerns over the weakening rupiah and capital market volatility.”It appears that (the textile industry) has sound fundamentals and is almost unaffected by the weak or unstable rupiah exchange rate or capital market. I also see that our national industry has strong resilience in the face of global instability,” he remarked. He said the garment industry's ability to meet domestic needs and penetrate global markets shows that Indonesian textile products remain competitive against imported goods.Furthermore, he encouraged the textile industry to capitalize on geopolitical challenges to increase export market expansion, including through Indonesia's trade agreement with Europe, which provides zero percent import duty on Indonesian textile products.”The government is also tightening border controls. The President has instructed customs authorities to strengthen the economy by preventing the entry of illegal, substandard, and market-disrupting goods,” Riza said.Meanwhile, Gajah Group Director Dedy Zein stated that PT Gajah Angkasa Perkasa is currently capable of producing a total of 3 million meters of garment products per month to meet the domestic and export markets, particularly the needs of military and government uniforms in Malaysia, Japan, and India. With a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of 85 percent, Dedy expressed confidence that the company will continue expanding its export reach, targeting markets such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), France, the United Kingdom, Spain, South Korea, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, and Canada.
