Indonesia targets Eurasian market expansion via Tajikistan cooperation

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia is actively targeting broader industrial market access across the Eurasian region by intensifying bilateral cooperation with Tajikistan. This strategic partnership aims to utilize Tajikistan as an entry point for Indonesian manufactured goods into the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), according to Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.”Industrial collaboration between countries needs to be continuously strengthened to spur innovation, expand market access and create investment opportunities that provide added value for both parties,” Minister Agus said in his statement on Sunday. The groundwork for the enhanced ties was laid during a bilateral meeting between the ministry's Director General of Resilience, Regional Affairs and International Industrial Access (KPAII) Tri Supondy and Tajikistan’s Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technology Aziz Nazar. The meeting took place on May 28, 2026, during the BRICS Forum on Partnership on the New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) in Xiamen, China.According to the ministry, the trade relationship between the two nations is highly complementary. Indonesia possesses strong manufacturing capabilities in the automotive, electronics, textiles and natural resource processing sectors, while Tajikistan specializes in mineral development, aluminum and new technology.Economic indicators show a positive trajectory, with trade volume growing from US$1.7 million in 2021 to US$1.9 million in 2025, dominated primarily by the non-oil and gas sector.Tri Supondy noted that strengthening alliances with partner states is part of Indonesia's core strategy to integrate national businesses into broader global supply chains.”We continue to increase opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships by expanding industrial networks, increasing investment and developing cooperation that can provide added value for both countries,” Supondy said.During the Xiamen convention, both delegations also reviewed a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to focus specifically on three prospective sectors, including the development of critical mineral supply chains, the pharmaceutical and medical device industries as well as the halal industrial ecosystem.Furthermore, the Indonesian delegation used the platform to highlight its upcoming role as the official Partner Country at the INNOPROM International Industrial Exhibition, scheduled for July 6–9, 2026, in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The ministry expects this major Eurasian industrial expo to significantly boost the global exposure of Indonesian industrial goods and attract international investors.
