Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Jakarta Provincial Government launched construction of the Dukuh Atas pedestrian deck, a circular elevated walkway in South Jakarta's Setiabudi area, which will connect six public transportation modes including the airport rail link. The elevated walkway, informally dubbed the “Donut Ring Bridge” because of its circular shape, will integrate various modes of public transportation, including MRT Jakarta, Jakarta LRT, Greater Jakarta LRT, commuter rail services, TransJakarta buses, and the airport rail link.“I hereby officially declare the construction of the Dukuh Atas Pedestrian Deck to have commenced. Hopefully, this development will further improve Jakarta’s transportation system,” Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said during the groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday. The structure will feature a circular design with a diameter of approximately 118 meters and a width of around 12 meters, with completion targeted for 2028.Pramono said the deck will also include commercial areas connected to pedestrian circulation routes across the bridge.“I am confident that the airport train service will become more vibrant, fully integrated with other transportation modes, and support future city check-in facilities,” he said. The governor said the pedestrian deck has yet to receive an official name, adding that the city administration plans to hold a public competition to select one.“Some people are calling it the Donut Ring Bridge because its shape resembles a donut,” Pramono explained.Pramono also highlighted Jakarta’s recent achievements in urban mobility. He said the city now ranks second in ASEAN for public transportation, behind Singapore, eighth in Asia, and 17th globally. He also cited the 2026 World's Best Cities ranking by Brussels-based Resonance Consultancy, which placed Jakarta 53rd worldwide, ahead of Washington, D.C., at 57th.“Jakarta is now among the world’s top 100 cities and capital cities. Jakarta ranks higher than Washington, D.C.,” he said.
