Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian government will accelerate the restructuring of more than 13,000 service centers under its Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, prioritising areas with high stunting rates while updating beneficiary data for 63 million recipients.Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan announced the plan after a limited cabinet meeting on improving the programme's governance in Jakarta on Wednesday.Hasan said the government had divided the restructuring into two priority phases to ensure the long-term sustainability and operational readiness of MBG service centers nationwide.Regions with high stunting rates, including Highland Papua and East Nusa Tenggara provinces, are targeted to complete the restructuring within one month.Most of Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) across Java and Sumatra will require up to two months of evaluation to ensure they are fully prepared for operations, Zulkifli said.An inter-ministerial meeting also agreed to complete updates to the database of 63 million beneficiaries and finalise the programme's beneficiary targeting within one month.”The President has instructed that everyone should receive the programme, except those who choose not to participate, such as students at schools that already provide adequate breakfasts,” Zulkifli added.He said the government remained committed to providing the programme, while allowing students who already have adequate breakfasts to opt out voluntarily.Zulkifli added Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sudaryono would revise several operational regulations and strengthen coordination among 17 ministries and government agencies to improve implementation.He said the government was optimistic that governance challenges surrounding the MBG programme could be addressed through stronger public communication, synchronised beneficiary data, and improved implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 115 of 2025 on MBG governance and Presidential Decree Number 28 of 2025 establishing the programme's coordinating team.
