North Kalimantan offers strategic investment projects

Tanjung Selor, Kaltara (ANTARA) – North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang promoted various strategic investment opportunities to ambassadors and representatives, including the Netherlands, Australia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, India, and China.Paliwang said to Antara in Tanjung Selor on Wednesday that he highlighted sectors to ambassadors such as green energy, infrastructure, downstream industries, the maritime sector, manufacturing, and agribusiness, all of which hold significant prospects for development in the region.On Tuesday (Aug 4), the governor was invited by the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) to participate in partnership exploration activities in Makassar and had the opportunity to present details regarding investment opportunities and economic potential in North Kalimantan.He added that North Kalimantan holds a strategic position due to its direct borders with Malaysia and the Philippines.As a new province, North Kalimantan offers investment opportunities with relatively low levels of competition, making it an attractive destination for investors.”Since North Kalimantan is a new province, there is currently no competition in various sectors. For investors who enter early and are committed to developing their businesses, the local government is ready to support necessary administrative processes,” he said.Regarding the energy sector, Paliwang outlined plans for the construction of the Mentarang Hydropower Plant and the Kayan River Hydropower Plant—with a combined capacity of 9,000 megawatts—to meet the electricity demand at the Green Industrial Park Indonesia (KIHI).Meanwhile, in the infrastructure sector, investment opportunities include the construction of a Type B regional hospital in Tanjung Selor and a toll road connecting Tanjung Selor to the Nusantara Capital City (IKN).In the maritime and manufacturing sectors, the investment opportunities on offer include the construction of seaweed processing plants in Tarakan and Nunukan, an organic fisheries industrial estate, and a cooking oil plant with an annual capacity of 11,739 tons.Meanwhile, in the agribusiness sector, North Kalimantan is promoting cocoa and coffee development in Malinau, as well as flagship commodities such as Krayan Mountain Salt and premium organic Adan rice.”Through this business matching forum, the North Kalimantan Provincial Government hopes to establish strategic partnerships with national and global investors to accelerate regional development and economic growth,” Paliwang said.
