Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia's Finance Ministry is set to acquire a 60 percent stake in PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China (KCIC), operator of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway (HSR), with the process expected to conclude by mid-September.”The stake will be handed over by Danantara to the Finance Ministry. We will expedite the process to ensure its conclusion by September,” Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa told reporters on Wednesday. The 60 percent stake was held by a state-owned enterprise consortium through PT Pilar Sinergi BUMN Indonesia (PSBI), while the remaining shares will remain with China's Beijing Yawan HSR Co. Ltd.Following the acquisition, the Jakarta-Bandung HSR, also known as Whoosh, will be operated by “special mission vehicle” (SMV) entities under the Finance Ministry, ensuring its operation or debt no longer burdens the state budget.Sadewa said his side would decide which SMV entities under the ministry would take over KCIC's operations, adding that the service could be managed by more than one entity.”The discussion is ongoing; maybe more than one entity will be involved here,” he said.Under the scheme, KCIC's operating costs and debt repayments will be funded through revenues or dividends generated by the SMV.The finance minister also assured that the ownership change would not affect Indonesia's HSR cooperation with China, as Beijing remains committed to working with Jakarta, particularly on the proposed expansion of the HSR route to East Java.Regarding the HSR extension to East Java, the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development has revealed that its preliminary study is ongoing. However, the Transportation Ministry stated that the financial restructuring of the Jakarta-Bandung HSR would serve as the benchmark before the government decides whether to extend the line to Surabaya and potentially Banyuwangi.
