Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Manpower Minister Yassierli said the upcoming presidential regulation on app-based motorcycle taxis — locally known as ojol — will focus on protecting drivers.”For the Ministry of Manpower, our concern is the social security of ojol drivers,” he said at a media briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday.The protection to be provided includes workplace accident and death insurance.Yassierli expressed hope that the regulation will ensure transparency in work relations between ride-hailing companies and drivers, emphasizing that there should be no unequal relationship between the two.He said the government is still gathering input to finalize the regulation, as it involves several relevant ministries.Earlier, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said his office had received the draft regulation and was communicating with various stakeholders before submission.He affirmed that the government is seeking the best solution so the regulation can provide legal certainty while protecting all parties involved.Hadi added that discussions have reached the final stage, with only a few technical matters left to agree on with ride-hailing companies.The government is targeting completion of the regulation by the end of this year.At a plenary Cabinet meeting on October 20, President Prabowo Subianto reiterated that the government continues to coordinate with ride-hailing firms to ensure the best service for ojol drivers.
