Indonesia forms joint team for Qatari housing project in Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government has established a joint team comprising several institutions and stakeholders to advance a Qatari investment project for housing development in Kampung Bandan, Jakarta, Housing and Settlements Minister Maruarar Sirait said.Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, he said the team comprises his ministry, the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN), state railway operator PT KAI, Statistics Indonesia (BPS), and Qatar's Al Qilaa International Group.Sirait added that the team is expected to help “ensure proper governance” by jointly addressing land-use planning, data requirements, and investment schemes in accordance with applicable regulations. The establishment of the team follows the signing of a preliminary cooperation agreement involving Al Qilaa for Indonesia's Three Million Houses Program in Jakarta on Sept. 17, 2025.KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said after the ceremony that the collaboration represents a strategic step toward optimizing the company's land assets through the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) concept. He signed the agreement with Al Qilaa Chairman Abdulaziz Al Thani, witnessed by the head of Indonesia's housing task force, Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo. The partnership stems from an investment project launched by Al Qilaa in June 2025 to build one million vertical housing units, beginning with the construction of 50,000 units on KAI-owned land within a TOD area.Under the plan, the project will be developed in Kampung Bandan, reflecting the two countries' commitment to national development and stronger investment ties. The development will feature smart residential towers integrating modern housing concepts with supporting facilities, including schools, playgrounds, communal spaces, and smart home systems, to improve residents' quality of life.Al Qilaa Chairman Abdulaziz Al Thani said the cooperation reflects the company's strong commitment to supporting housing provision in Indonesia in line with the Three Million Houses Program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto. He also described the project as a concrete step toward fostering a sustainable housing ecosystem.
