Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) is deploying six aircraft to deliver logistics and humanitarian aid to regions affected by a 7.7-magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).”The deployment includes two C-130J Super Hercules, one C-130 Hercules, one Airbus A400M, and two Boeing 737s,” Head of the TNI AU Information Office Air Commodore I Nyoman Suadnyana said in a statement on Wednesday. The transport aircraft have been deployed since Monday (Aug. 17) and are expected to expedite the distribution of aid to disaster victims in NTT, he said.The first C-130J Super Hercules was dispatched to Labuan Bajo on Monday, carrying 13.5 tons of aid, Suadnyana said. Another C-130J Super Hercules flew to Maumere with an additional 13.5 tons of relief supplies.Meanwhile, an Airbus A400M was deployed to Labuan Bajo with 20.7 tons of aid, while two Boeing 737 jets flew to Maumere carrying a combined 10 tons of assistance.The six transport aircraft will remain on standby for further deployments to NTT if necessary to alleviate the suffering of affected residents and support post-disaster recovery efforts, he noted.A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck NTT on Saturday (Aug. 15) morning, triggering a tsunami warning that was later lifted. As of August 18, the earthquake had claimed 70 lives and injured 1,182 people.
