Indonesia backs young creators to compete on global stage: Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy and Head of the Creative Economy Agency Teuku Riefky Harsya has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting young creators in competing on the global stage.He made the statement during his visit to the 2025 Urban Sneaker Society (USS) event in Jakarta.Riefky praised the local brands featured at the event as the new face of Indonesia’s creative industry, defined by innovation and strong identity.“The local brands showcased at USS reflect the new face of Indonesia’s creative industry — innovative, adaptive, and full of character. The government will continue to support the development of creative talents so they can compete internationally,” he said in an official statement on Monday.During his visit, Riefky interacted with several leading local brands, including Signore, Calle, Compass, Kanky, Ortuseight, Room for Air, and Money Alter.He viewed their latest collections and listened to the creators’ experiences in developing products and expanding their markets amid growing international competition.According to Riefky, the Urban Sneaker Society exemplifies cross-subsector collaboration that unites ideas, innovation, and markets within one creative platform.The event, he added, also highlights the spirit of young creators who play a vital role in driving economic growth while strengthening Indonesia’s cultural identity.The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy continues to strengthen engagement with young creative communities and promote the growth of the fashion and product design subsectors, which serve as key pillars of the national creative economy.“The ministry remains committed to enhancing the competitiveness of the creative ecosystem, expanding cross-sector collaboration networks, and strengthening the role of creative talents as part of a new engine of growth toward a resilient, innovative, and globally influential creative economy,” Riefky said, accompanied by Director of Fashion Romi Astuti.Since its debut in 2017, the Urban Sneaker Society has evolved into a creative lifestyle platform featuring more than 300 brands and communities across fashion, sports, home living, and F&B sectors.This year’s USS 2025, held at JICC Senayan from November 7 to 9, features exclusive collaborations between local and international brands, showcasing the potential of cross-country partnerships and the innovative strength of Indonesia’s creative industry on the global stage.
