Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Trade Representative in South Korea and the Goyang City Government, South Korea, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote the marketing of Indonesian coffee.The head of the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in Busan, Husodo Kuncoro Yakti, said the Goyang City Government plans to develop the city into a coffee distribution hub in South Korea by 2028.According to Yakti, with the rise of coffee consumption in South Korea, Indonesian coffee exporters can utilize this momentum.”The steady rise in coffee consumption in South Korea and the plan to open a coffee distribution center in Goyang will be beneficial for Indonesian coffee. We hope this coffee distribution center in Goyang will boost Indonesian coffee consumption in South Korea,” he remarked in a statement on Monday.The MoU was signed by Yakti and Goyang Mayor Lee Dong-hwa on November 6, 2025, in South Korea.The MoU reaffirmed the support of the Busan ITPC and the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul for the Goyang City Government to establish a coffee distribution center.According to Yakti, Indonesia is the first partner country to collaborate with Goyang in this initiative. Indonesia currently ranks 13th among coffee suppliers to South Korea.Goyang Special City has appointed Good Neighbors, a South Korean coffee organization, to implement the program, which includes mentoring and human resource capacity-building.The Busan ITPC will collaborate with Good Neighbors on various promotional efforts to market imported coffee from Indonesia, including Good Neighbors’ partnership with an Indonesian coffee producer cooperative, the Enrekang Timur Kasiurutan Cooperative (ETIKA) in South Sulawesi, as a coffee supplier, he added.Indonesia’s total non-oil and gas trade with South Korea stood at US$20.13 billion in 2024.Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports to South Korea were recorded at US$9.12 billion, while Indonesia’s non-oil and gas imports from South Korea amounted to US$8.62 billion.The non-oil and gas trade between the two countries increased by an average of 8.84 percent per year over the past five years (2020-2024).During the same period, Indonesia’s exports to South Korea increased by an average of 11.09 percent per year.
