BMKG continues climate data synergy to support national food security

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has partnered with the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agricultural Modernization and Assembly Agency (BRMP) to use climate data in supporting modern agricultural systems and national food security.BMKG Deputy for Climatology Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan said the collaboration aims to accelerate the agricultural sector’s adaptation to climate change.“This partnership allows BMKG to provide real-time, accurate climate information that farmers can apply directly in the field,” he said in a statement on Wednesday. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between BMKG and BRMP was signed during the BRMP Agrifest in Bogor, West Java, an event showcasing innovations and technology-based modern farming systems.Ardhasena explained that the collaboration will integrate climatology data with agricultural information systems, helping farmers make informed decisions based on weather patterns and seasonal conditions.Key areas include rainfall forecasts, temperature analysis, and drought potential monitoring, all of which impact land productivity and crop yields.BRMP Head Fadjry Djufry said the synergy will enhance the agricultural system’s resilience to climate change.“Direct access to climatology data will help farmers increase productivity and anticipate climate risks, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s goal of achieving national food self-sufficiency,” he said.He added that the partnership reflects both agencies’ commitment to inter-agency cooperation, applying science-based innovations to create sustainable and resilient agriculture across Indonesia.Through this collaboration, BMKG and BRMP aim to bridge the gap between climate science and practical farming, empowering farmers with tools to mitigate risks and improve productivity in the face of environmental challenges.
