Indonesia’s PT KAI sells 734,000 train tickets during Eid travel rush

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s state railway operator PT KAI sold more than 734,000 long-distance train tickets during the Eid al-Fitr travel season, reflecting a sharp rise in demand for rail travel across Java.“This shows the high public interest in using trains during the Eid period,” Public Relations Manager for KAI’s Jakarta Operation Area 1 (Daop 1) Franoto Wibowo said.From March 11–17, departures from Daop 1 Jakarta totaled 353,881 passengers, while arrivals reached 163,582. On March 17 alone, 56,041 passengers traveled across Java, with 51,561 using long-distance services. Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta recorded the highest traffic, with 24,536 departures and 8,834 arrivals. Gambir Station followed with 17,736 departures and 5,012 arrivals, while Jatinegara and several West Java stations—including Bekasi, Cikampek, Cikarang, and Karawang—also reported heavy flows. Local services saw strong demand. The Pangrango line operated at 75 percent occupancy, selling 60,716 tickets from 80,960 seats. Since March 11, it has carried 22,853 passengers, including 3,368 on March 17. The Siliwangi line sold 8,493 tickets and served 6,551 passengers over the same period, with 740 traveling on March 17. With passenger volumes climbing, PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta has urged travelers to plan journeys carefully, arrive early at stations, and keep tickets and identification ready to ensure smooth travel during the peak Eid season.
