Gov’t maintains subsidized fuel price, prioritizes affordability: VP

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka said the government remains committed to maintaining stable subsidized fuel prices to ensure affordability for the public. In a statement issued on Thursday, Gibran acknowledged proposals to raise fuel prices but said such measures do not align with directives from President Prabowo Subianto.“This is not in line with the President’s clear instruction to maintain stable subsidized fuel prices so they remain affordable, especially for lower-income communities,” he said.He added that the government is implementing budget efficiency and refocusing measures to protect vulnerable groups from the broader impact of potential fuel price increases, including rising costs of basic goods and transportation.Gibran also said the government is accelerating the transition to electric vehicles and other renewable energy sources. He cited the president’s recent visit to Magelang, Central Java, to inaugurate an electric vehicle assembly plant as a sign of the government’s commitment to promoting cleaner energy.Earlier, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said subsidized fuel prices would remain unchanged through the end of the year.“We are ready to maintain current subsidized fuel prices through year-end, assuming global oil prices remain around US$100 per barrel,” he said during a meeting with Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Monday (April 6).
