Jakarta (ANTARA) – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is addressing the issue of permit faced by PT GBKEK Industri Park, the manager of the Galang Batang Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bintan Island, Riau Islands Province.”This is about the change in function and release of forest areas for the development of the Galang Batang SEZ, an issue which has not been followed up since its proposal in 2022,” Purbaya at the debottlenecking canal complaint hearing in Jakarta on Thursday.The Galang Batang SEZ is planned to be developed as a center for the processing industry for mineral mining products and their derivative products, both from refineries and smelters.The initial investment value of this project is Rp36.25 trillion (US$2.12 billion) until 2027. After development, the Galang Batang Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is expected to employ 110,000 people, with an investment value of Rp120.5 trillion (US$7.05 billion) until 2027.However, investment in the development of the Galang Batang SEZ has been delayed due to the Ministry of Forestry's lack of follow-up to the integrated team's recommendation.PT GBKEK Industri Park has submitted a request for approval to use approximately 80.98 hectares of forest land in the Masiran Village area for port construction.The company claims to have received a recommendation for approval from the Riau Islands Provincial Government, but has yet to receive a decision from the Ministry of Forestry.Finally, PT GBKEK Industri Park sent letter No. 112/GBKEK/IX/2025 in September 2025 regarding a request for forest land use to the Ministry of Forestry, but has not yet received a response.To address these issue, Purbaya requested that the Ministry of Forestry, as the party responsible for licensing applications, follow up on the issue within two weeks.For the record, the government has opened a channel for the Task Force for the Acceleration of Government Strategic Programs (P2SP) to accommodate complaints about obstacles experienced by businesses.The channel can be accessed 24/7 at https://lapor.satgasp2sp.go.id.This effort is intended to provide investors with certainty regarding the security of investing in Indonesia.
