Prabowo concludes multi-decade tenure as PB IPSI chairperson

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto has decided to conclude his multi-decade tenure as general chairperson of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (PB IPSI).He explained that the decision was made because his current responsibilities as President of Indonesia are time-consuming, making it impossible for him to effectively carry out his duties as the general chairperson of PB IPSI.”Today, I am announcing that I will not continue as the general chairperson of PB IPSI, as I have now taken on national duties that require my full time and attention,” he said at the association's national congress in Jakarta on Saturday.Throughout his years with PB IPSI, Prabowo served as deputy chairperson for four terms and chairperson for five terms. He admitted that he has not been directly active in the organization’s activities in recent years, although he has continued to provide support from behind the scenes.Prabowo emphasized that he is not willing to be renominated as chairperson and asked the association to find the best successor to lead PB IPSI.”I apologize, but I am not willing to be nominated again. I believe there is a new generation ready to take over the mantle of leadership at IPSI, and I will certainly continue to support PB IPSI,” he asserted. On that occasion, he also apologized for any shortcomings during his leadership and expressed his appreciation for the support and loyalty shown by all parties throughout his time leading the organization. He noted that one remaining goal is the inclusion of pencak silat—Indonesia’s traditional martial art—in the Olympics. Nevertheless, he expressed optimism that the incoming leadership would be able to realize this vision.Despite no longer holding an official position, Prabowo asserted he would continue to support PB IPSI in any capacity, in line with his commitment to pencak silat.”I have been part of the IPSI community for 34 years and I am ready to continue to provide my support, whether I hold a title or not. A warrior remains a warrior until their very last breath,” Prabowo stressed.
