RI opens opportunities for research collaboration with Qatar

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is opening up opportunities for collaboration with Qatar in the areas of strengthening joint research, academic mobility, and developing human resources.The potential for cooperation was discussed during a courtesy visit by the Qatari Ambassador to Indonesia, Sultan bin Mubarak Al-Dosari, with the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, here on Thursday (4/9).”We are conducting research in various fields and opening up opportunities for collaborative research between universities in Indonesia and Qatar,” said the minister in a statement here on Saturday.Through this joint research project scheme, researchers from both countries can collaborate directly, he said.”In addition, we are also encouraging increased student mobility, including opportunities for Indonesian students to study and conduct research at universities in Qatar,” the minister added.Meanwhile, Qatari Ambassador Sultan bin Mubarak Al-Dosari welcomed the initiative, and emphasized Qatar's commitment to strengthening relations in the field of higher education.The meeting also discussed potential collaborations with various leading universities in Qatar that have partnered with world-leading educational institutions.In addition, the two parties also discussed the potential for increasing the number of Indonesian students studying in Qatar through various schemes, including scholarships.The program is expected to expand access for Indonesia's top talents to global-class education and research.The two sides also discussed the possibility of developing double degree and joint degree programs at the master's and doctoral levels, which would allow students to study in both countries with academic guidance from partner universities.In a broader context, the discussions between the two parties also covered potential collaboration in the fields of applied science and research-based technology development.This is part of an effort to encourage innovation that is integrated with industrial needs and sustainable development.The meeting also emphasized the importance of activating existing collaborations between universities and expanding new partnerships with other higher education institutions in Indonesia.In line with the policy direction of the Impactful Higher Education, Science and Technology (Diktisaintek), the collaboration is expected to not only strengthen global networks, but also encourage real contributions from higher education and research in responding to national and global development challenges.This approach emphasizes downstreaming research, strengthening superior human resources, and synergy between higher education, science, and industrial needs.
