Serang (ANTARA) – The Banten Provincial Government affirmed its commitment to supporting the national clean energy transition by following central policies on electric vehicle tax exemptions.Banten Deputy Governor Achmad Dimyati Natakusumah stated in Serang on Saturday that the province would adjust its fiscal regulations following the issuance of Circular Letter from the Minister of Home Affairs Number 900.1.13.1/3764/SJ, which authorizes the granting of these tax incentives.”For electric vehicles, we will comply with central regulations,” Natakusumah said regarding the implementation of the new tax incentives in Serang. The policy, signed on April 22, 2026, encourages regional governments to exempt Motor Vehicle Tax and Motor Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fees for all battery based electric vehicle owners. While fully supporting the environmental mission, Natakusumah noted that the province faces specific fiscal challenges related to this transition.According to the official, the increasing trend in electric vehicle use has the potential to impact the structure of regional revenue from the conventional vehicle sector.”This is a two-pronged approach. We want to be environmentally friendly, but on the other hand, there's an impact on local revenue. This must be balanced,” he said.Natakusumah added that the potential decline in regional revenue had been raised in a coordination forum with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs as a consideration for future policies. The Banten Provincial Government ensured that implementation on the ground would remain in line with national efforts to encourage an eco friendly vehicle ecosystem. The deputy governor emphasized that the province is currently preparing the necessary administrative updates to ensure a smooth transition for local taxpayers.”In principle, we follow central regulations. For now, we are implementing according to existing regulations,” Natakusumah said to clarify the current status of the policy.
