President Prabowo pushes completion of Manpower Bill this year

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto said he has instructed his ministers to work with the House of Representatives (DPR) to finalize the Manpower Bill this year.”I have instructed the Minister of Manpower and the Minister of Law to coordinate with the DPR to complete the Manpower Bill,” he said during the International Workers’ Day commemoration at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Friday. He added that the legislation must prioritize the interests of Indonesian workers. The president also outlined several measures to improve workers' welfare, including a housing program that is expected to provide homes while creating jobs.Prabowo said he has signed Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026, which caps commission fees charged by ride-hailing platforms at 8 percent. The regulation also requires platforms to provide social security coverage for drivers.Labor representatives have urged the government to pass the bill, including Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSBSI) President Elly Rosita Silaban. She said strengthening the manpower law is necessary to ensure job security and protect workers' rights.Key issues include outsourcing practices and the legal status and social protection of platform workers. The push to finalize the bill follows a 2024 ruling by the Constitutional Court (MK), which ordered the government and parliament to draft a standalone manpower law within two years.
