Indonesia’s Prabowo backs stronger ASEAN food, energy resilience

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto concluded his agenda at the 48th ASEAN Summit by joining fellow Southeast Asian leaders in strengthening collective efforts to address global challenges, particularly food and energy security.Foreign Minister Sugiono said in a press statement on Saturday that ASEAN leaders focused on collective responses to global geopolitical challenges, particularly the conflict in the Middle East.He said ASEAN leaders recognized that tensions in the Middle East had directly affected countries in the region, particularly in the food and energy sectors.”We have all realized that a war taking place in a region far from us can quickly affect the livelihoods of people in our region. This is the reality faced by all ASEAN countries,” he said.Sugiono said ASEAN leaders shared the view that the region must strengthen its resilience amid global uncertainty.”There is growing collective awareness that the current situation requires joint initiatives to make ASEAN a more resilient region, particularly in the energy and food sectors,” Sugiono said.He added that the agenda aligned with President Prabowo's priority to strengthen food and energy security as key foundations of national resilience.The Indonesian government continues to accelerate strategic programs to support those goals, he added.Sugiono also said ASEAN leaders agreed on several concrete measures to strengthen regional food and energy security.These included the ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement and the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR).
