Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka praised the Jakarta MRT Phase 2A project on Tuesday, saying the railway expansion has employed about 3,800 construction workers.“Thank you to the MRT management and construction workers for working day and night so the project stays on schedule,” Gibran said during a visit to the Harmoni-Sawah Besar section in Jakarta.Gibran toured the underground tunnel section alongside Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi and MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat. He said the MRT Phase 2A project reflected strong cooperation between the Jakarta provincial government and the Transportation Ministry to develop safe, modern and integrated public transportation.According to Gibran, public transportation development also requires support from surrounding metropolitan areas to improve regional connectivity. He added that safe, comfortable and modern public transportation remains one of President Prabowo Subianto’s main priorities. At the same event, Tuhiyat said the 3,800-3,900 workers figure covered only on-site construction personnel.“It does not include office staff, outsourcing support and other back-end workers. On-site workers alone total around 3,900 people,” he said.MRT Jakarta Phase 2A will connect Bundaran HI and Kota over 5.8 kilometers through seven underground stations: Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok and Kota.As of April 25, 2026, overall construction progress on the Bundaran HI-Kota line had reached 59.76 percent. The Bundaran HI-Monas segment is scheduled to begin operations by late 2027, while the full line to Kota Station is targeted for completion in 2029.During the inspection, Gibran also reviewed the underground tunnel connection between Sawah Besar and Harmoni stations, which can now be crossed on foot.Construction of diaphragm walls and station walls in the Duta Merlin area is also continuing, the project operator said.
