Jakarta (ANTARA) – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected progress on Phase 2A construction of the mass rapid transit (MRT) line to ensure the service can operate on the Bundaran HI-Monas route by the end of 2027.Wearing a safety vest and helmet, Gibran passed through an MRT tunnel under development alongside Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo, and PT MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat.“This is a collaborative project involving the central and regional governments. As Mr. President Director has said, construction has progressed to 59 percent overall,” he remarked in the tunnel, which will extend the MRT corridor from Harmoni to Sawah Besar in Jakarta on Tuesday.Gibran explained that the ongoing work covers corridors connecting Thamrin-Monas, Harmoni-Mangga Besar, and Glodok-Kota, noting that MRT service is projected to link Bundaran HI (Hotel Indonesia Roundabout) and Monas (National Monument) by next year.He added that the further target is to extend the line from Lebak Bulus Station in South Jakarta to a station near the Jakarta Old Town (Kota Tua) complex in West Jakarta by the end of 2029.”In other words, this is extraordinary progress,” the vice president affirmed.He also reported that the MRT has served 47 million passengers annually, operating on a corridor linking Lebak Bulus and Bundaran HI in Phase 1 of development.Gibran then described the project, jointly undertaken by the Ministry of Transportation and the Jakarta government, as a manifestation of the state’s commitment to building a safe, comfortable, and integrated mass transport system.He further highlighted that President Prabowo Subianto had declared developing modern public transportation one of the government’s priority initiatives.
