Indonesia delays mining royalty and export levy plan

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian energy minister and finance minister have agreed to postpone the introduction of royalties and export levies on mining commodities. The government is currently reviewing ways to maximize state revenue without disrupting the mining sector according to official statements.“In today’s meeting, both ministers agreed to revisit the plan for export levies and royalties. So it is being delayed for further discussion,” Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia told reporters here on Wednesday.Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa met Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to discuss boosting non-tax state revenue. The ministers also discussed accelerating energy self-sufficiency programs and expanding rural electrification to improve infrastructure in remote areas.Purbaya said he was ready to support strategic initiatives from the energy ministry that are aimed at strengthening the national economy and improving welfare.“Basically, I will support every effort by the energy minister,” the finance minister said in a written statement following the meeting.Anggia noted the talks did not address the impact of the rupiah’s recent slide to around 17,500 per U.S. dollar on fuel prices and energy subsidies. “Not yet, it hasn’t reached that point,” she said.Bahlil expressed optimism about closer collaboration between the two ministries while highlighting the need for integrated management of energy revenues.“We discussed synchronization programs, including how to increase non-tax revenue, but also how to realize energy self-sufficiency and rural electrification,” he said. The ministers emphasized that aligning fiscal and energy policies is critical to maintaining stability and ensuring that resource revenues benefit both the public and national development.
